Biography

I earned a BSc (1st Class Honors) in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Moratuwa (UoM), Sri Lanka, in 2004. I then pursued an MS and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Colorado State University, Fort Collins, USA, completing them in 2008 and 2012, respectively. Further, I hold diplomas and certifications in college teaching, psychology, and security products from WatchGuard.

My academic career began in late 2004 when I joined the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UoM. I was promoted to Senior Lecturer Grade II in 2012 and Grade I in 2017. In 2019, I joined the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO)’s Data61, Australia. Later that year, I joined the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, as a Conjoint Senior Lecturer. Since March 2024, I have been serving as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at UNSW.

My research interests include Distributed Systems (Blockchain, Cloud, and P2P), Computer Security, Software Architecture, Data Engineering, and IoT (Internet of Things). I have embraced a multidisciplinary approach, applying my expertise in areas such as Supply Chains; Digital Finance; Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG); Fleet Management; and Weather Monitoring.

With 14 years of consultancy experience in Blockchain, Security, Cloud, Software Architecture, and Performance Engineering, I bring a wealth of practical expertise to my academic pursuits. I am a Senior Member of IEEE and a Charted Engineer of IESL (The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka). I was an IEEE student member (2007-2012), ACM Member (2014-2016), and president of the student leadership council of the NSF Engineering Research Center for Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere (2010-2012).

Outside academia, I love to travel, savor diverse cuisines, and indulge in reading.
